Headstart4Babies is a UK charity (registered no 1112256) run by Philip Saich and Karen Laker, whose baby Ben was treated for severe plagiocephaly in 2004 and 2005.

Headstart4Babies aims to raise awareness of plagiocephaly and brachycephaly, conditions which are being diagnosed in an increasing number of babies. Plagiocephaly and brachycephaly can be treated using a non-invasive helmet and treatment is most effective between the ages of four and 12 months, as that is when the skull is experiencing its most rapid growth and is at its most malleable. Treatment in the UK costs a maximum of £2,500.

Although we can offer help and advice on what it is like to have a baby with plagiocephaly, we are not medically qualified and cannot therefore give medical advice.

All donations received by Headstart4Babies are used to further our charitable objectives, which include raising awareness of plagiocephaly and its associated conditions, providing help and advice to worried parents and, where our funds permit, assisting families on low incomes to proceed with treatment.

Following an intensive period of fundraising, we are pleased to announce that our financial assistance fund is now open again and we are inviting applications from families who would benefit from assistance with the funding of the deposit for their helmet. Sadly, we are unable to fund any baby's treatment in full until further notice. Our application form is now available for completion.

With our trustees we are also able to assist families in fundraising activities, both to benefit the charity and to fund treatment for their own baby. We are now able to Gift Aid donations made by UK tax payers – please email us for details – and Gift Aid is automatically added to any donations we receive through our JustGiving page or via JustTextGiving.
